Diabesity is a term that comes with a red underlining in Microsoft’s Word. It is not recognized. However, this is a term that is increasingly more poignant in today’s health lexicon. It refers to the term diabetes and obesity.
Those two diagnoses are increasing and mostly go hand in hand. The current method for dealing with these problems is to treat them. I have a better idea. Let’s save the country some money and save the patients some grief and prevent diabesity or get rid of it. The good news is that it can be attcked.
Diabesity encompasses:
- Obestity and being overweight
- Lethargy
- Brain Fog
- Cholesterol problems
- Cardiovascular problems
- Diabetes
- Chronic inflammation that leads to several other disease processes
- Adrenal problems
- Much more….
Knowledge is that thing that is lacking in our treatment to diabetes and obesity. We are still hung up on calorie counting and avoiding fats. This has not worked since it started back in the seventies. We need a more sophisticated approach with a simpler plan. I try to get at this with my class on blood sugar regulation in Northfield. It will be taking place at the Northfield Community Center on April 30th at 7. This is a chance to gain all of the knowledge that can help make the good decisions that will eventually lead to weight loss as a side-effect. The other side-effect is regulation of blood sugar with the opportunity to reduce medication (consult your MD with any dosage changes) for diabetes, and even getting rid of it!
I have discussed this topic several times in my previous blogs. However, I don’t tap into the possible excitement that can come with the knowledge and life-style changes. People are not aware that they have had their power taken away from them with misinformation, but with the right information they can take control! This is awesome, because empowerment is crucial!
Sometimes there is not an easy fix to the problem and having a catalyst is important. I like to focus on natural supplements that can help make things a bit easier. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) has some really good studies that suggest that it can help with diabesity! The good news about this supplement is that it is also good for intestinal health and is a very powerful antioxidant. Curcumin also has a great study stating that it is helpful for diabetes. These are great tools, but they are not a magic bullet. There is no magic bullet. If there was there would be no diabesity.
I have helped patients with diabesity for some time now and I have found a problem with my interventions. It does not take into the account that people have to change their lifestyles. It is very difficult for a lot of my patients, because there is a habit and routine that must be broken. That is why I have enlisted Take Shape For Life with Metifast. I call it the easy button. It is a trilogy of training. That means that it uses Medifast meals (that basically stabilizes blood sugar to turn off the insulin pump), the Habits of Health behavior modification training, and me as free coaching. It has been helpful for so many people, and I am excited to help people with it. If you would like some information about this program follow this link. This is not the only way to help with diabesity, but it can be VERY effective.
Call to action:
I would like to go back to the main point of this blog. We have been given a false sense of health and healthy eating by so many interest groups that we are almost powerless against diabesity. I want to help the Northfield community to take back the power. No longer are we going to have a false sense of nutrition. We are going to take control of our blood sugar and take control of our health care dollars. With the right knowledge and intervention we can take control of our health! Who’s coming with me!?
