In light of our upcoming class at the IT! Factory on April 6th, 2014, we’ve been brushing up on some studies, reports, and peer reviewed journal articles on the topic of blood sugar regulation and the problems listed above. Blood sugar is most often associated with diabetes and energy. However, it is alarming to note the amount of women and families suffering physically and mentally from endometriosis, fertility issues, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Your health will bloomIn short, here is a synopsis of what we will discuss in our class. Please let us know if you’d like more information on the topic or details about the class.
Blood sugar is a measurement of the amount of sugar (glucose) that is in the blood at a given point in time. The foods we eat affect the blood sugar differently depending on how quickly are bodies digest/process the foods into glucose for use.
As you eat, your blood sugar may rise and fall irregularly and dramatically if, for example, you eat a diet of mostly simple carbohydrates and sugar as opposed to primarily protein with complex carbohydrates. The unregulated rise and falls over time cause stress on the body. This may cause resistance to insulin, the compound made by the body to allow entry of glucose into the cells for energy production. Furthermore, the prolonged stress on the body may cause adrenal fatigue. Which then affects cortisol, progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen balance in the body as well as thyroid function. In women especially, the balance of hormones and timing of their fluctuations is necessary for a normal reproductive cycle and function of organs.
