Have you been injured at work and wondered what you should do for treatment? A new study indicates that people who have been hurt at work are less likely to have surgery if they first see a chiropractor. This is more evidence that when you are hurt at work the first place that you should go is to the chiropractor.

A great reason to see a chiropractor for the injuries mentions firstly is that the physical exam is best in the business. I saw a patient that was told that they needed to seek surgery, but they couldn’t afford it because the work comp expenses had already maxed out his policy. This was because they ordered several expensive tests that gave no conclusion as to why he was having problems with his back, neck, and shoulder. They could not come up with a diagnosis, because they didn’t give a very good physical exam. After our exam I asked the patient if any of the other doctors touched him at any time during their exams. He indicated that they did not. His findings were not much different than some of my other patients. If he would have come into my clinic first he most likely would have saved himself months of pain.
Make sure that your chiropractor has a good relationship with other referring physicians. This good relationship can be an indicator that the patient’s needs are met in the best way possible. This is because there may be a time when chiropractic cannot help the situation or the condition can be co-managed wonderfully with a surgeon or other medical practitioner.
In the end these people and the businesses that employ them end up saving money using a chiropractor. I have discussed saving money with chiropractic care in previous blogs. Most of the time people can get much better with conservative care, and not have to spend the money, and more importantly, the time rehabbing from surgery. This study gives evidence to the fact that your first choice for work related injuries should be a chiropractor. If you have any questions about work related injuries please call 507-645-8000.
