Chiropractic Care and Athletes
Athletes have been benefiting from chiropractic care for many years. Even world-class athletes seek chiropractic care because it is a drug-free way to better health and performance.
Some notable athletes that use chiropractic care are;
- Michael Jordan
- Tiger Woods
- Joe Montana
- Jerry Rice
- Sydney Crosby
- Lance Armstrong
- Many Others
Chiropractic care helps the body function as efficiently as possible. It can also help speed up recovery from injuries ranging from ankle sprains to shoulder problems, to the all-too-common lower back pain.
Dr. Conway worked with several athletes in his internship. Some of the athletes were professional players including members of the MN Twins and AZ Diamondbacks. He also worked with world-class golfers, marathon runners, gymnasts, swimmers, and bikers. He even worked with many of the top high school and college athletes.

Athletes need their bodies to respond to great physical demands. They also push their bodies to the limit. Sometimes this can lead to micro-trauma that is not detected. For premium body control, there needs to be premium body function.
Why Can’t I Feel This Happening?
When the body is not in proper working order there can be a problem with communication. In elite working order there are neuro-receptors in the extremities that communicate with the brain. This information is then used in the brain to fire the muscles. When there is a disruption in the communication it can lead to fatigue, injury, or a lack of ideal efficient performance.
This process in the body is through unconscious mechanisms. This process is something that is not easily detected by the athlete. Usually this process is first felt when the pain receptors are activated by micro-tears in tendons or the muscles of the athlete.
What Are The Causes?
Causes can come from many different sources:
- An old injury that didn’t heal properly
- Cerebellar (balance) dysfunction
- Pelvic instability
- Improper workout technique
- Poor diet
- Dysfunction in eye mechanics
- Spinal misalignment
- Extremity misalignment
- Tight muscles
- Inactivated extensor muscles
- Overactive flexor muscles
- Gut dysfunction
- Improper breathing mechanics
- Pushing beyond your physical limit
- Poor posture
